First day of school. Chapter 1.

Well Pearland- Here we are. First day of school is here. Clothes laid out, bags are packed, snacks are ready.. This is bittersweet for me. My twins are starting kindergarten in about 8 hours. I kind of feel like I am losing my job. They have been my primary job for almost 6 years. Now, change is a 'comin. We will roll with it, and like Oprah, create a new normal. Good luck to the newbies, and those that are on their way out. I may need a few days before i post again... :)

Free Kids haircuts!

Don’t forget the free haircuts for kids in Remington College Cosmetology’s back-to-school program, Cuts for Kids. The free cuts kicked off yesterday and today, for kids ages 17 and under, depending on location. Instructors and students provide free haircuts at one of three Houston-area locations. Make an appointment or walk in for the free cuts:

* 11310 Greens Crossing (North Houston) — Free haircuts August 8 – 20.
* 3110 Hayes Road (Westchase) — Free haircuts August 8 – 19.
* 20985 I-45 S (Webster)– Free haircuts August 9 – 20.

Adults can take advantage of 50 percent off services for themselves, too, when they bring their child. Services include haircuts, styling, and nail care.

Last year, Remington College provided more than 3,200 free haircuts to children around the country in its Cuts for Kids program.

Art Camps in Friendswood!

Ok- my friend JUST told me about an ART camp for K-6th tomorrow in Friendswood near the Funky Monkey. It is from 10-2 and you send a lunch with them. The theme is Out of this World Space Adventure, I believe they may even be building a robot. The best part-- $10.00!! I have no idea how I have not heard of this place, but I am glad I have now. I spoke with Sara, and she was telling me about all the different after-school classes and homeschool classes they offer. They do Kindermusic for 5-7 year olds to prepare them for private lessons. It teaches them to read music. They offer Piano, Guitar, Violin, and art classes as well. I will be checking this all out tomorrow at Art Camp. She also said they have one more toddler/baby summer camp left August 15-19th. There is also another Art Camp for K-6th next friday and the theme is Rainforest. Call Sara at 281-992-4242. She is updating the website as well. The website is www.Friendswoodmusic.com
Please tell her you heard about it from Shannon and the Pearup.blogspot.com
Thanks!

School Supplies, Backpacks, labels, OH MY!

Ok, my twins are about to start kindergarten and I am trying to be extra organized and on top of it! School supplies are done. I finished the day the stores put them out.. what can I sat, I love school supplies shopping. The only thing I had a hard time finding was Manilla paper, and that was just because the stores had not put it out yet. Anyway, I also researched backpacks, and even ventured on to Twitter and asked a pro, Kate Gosselin herself, which backpacks she recommended. 8 kids, I figure she is probably about the best person to ask.. except for maybe the Dugger lady, but her kids are homeschooled, so what would she know about a backpack! Anyway, Kate suggested LL Bean bags. So I looked them up, and they do in fact have THE best reviews, and even a lifetime guarantee/satisfaction, no questions asked. After much deliberation over color and style, my boys picked out their favorite and LOVED it when it arrived. I also had a groupon or living social deal for those cute waterproof labels. I am creating them today online, and will let you know how they actually hold up in the dishwasher...
So, between all the kindergarten craziness, it's been hard to find time to sit down and blog for you all ;/ sorry! Now, I am in vacation planning mode.. we will be heading to the beaches of florida next week... can't wait.. white sand, clear water!
